Abnormal Sleep Signals Vulnerability to Chronic Social Defeat Stress

چکیده
There is a tight association between mood and sleep as disrupted core feature of many disorders. The paucity in available animal models for investigating the role etiopathogenesis depression-like behaviors led us to investigate whether prior disturbances can predict susceptibility future stress. Hence, we assessed before after chronic social defeat (CSD) behavior mice post stress was classified two main phenotypes: susceptible that displayed avoidance resilient Pre-CSD, increased fragmentation Non-Rapid Eye Movement (NREM) sleep, due switching NREM wake shorter average duration bouts, relative Logistic regression analysis showed pre-CSD features from both phenotypes were separable enough allow prediction with >80% accuracy. Post-CSD, maintained high while exhibited fragmentation, only dark. Our findings emphasize putative fragmented signaling vulnerability

Prefrontal cortex reactivity underlies trait vulnerability to chronic social defeat stress
Psychological stress contributes to the onset and exacerbation of nearly all neuropsychiatric disorders. Individual differences in stress-regulatory circuits can therefore dramatically affect vulnerability to these illnesses. Here we identify neural circuit mechanisms underlying individual differences in vulnerability to stress using a murine model of chronic social defeat stress. In chronicall...
متن کاملHierarchical Status Predicts Behavioral Vulnerability and Nucleus Accumbens Metabolic Profile Following Chronic Social Defeat Stress.
Extensive data highlight the existence of major differences in individuals' susceptibility to stress [1-4]. While genetic factors [5, 6] and exposure to early life stress [7, 8] are key components for such neurobehavioral diversity, intriguing observations revealed individual differences in response to stress in inbred mice [9-12]. This raised the possibility that other factors might be critica...
متن کاملEffects of Social Defeat Stress on Sleep in Mice
Stress plays a key role in the development of psychiatric disorders and has a negative impact on sleep integrity. In mice, chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) is an ethologically valid model of stress-related disorders but little is known about its effects on sleep regulation. Here, we investigated the immediate and long-term effects of 10 consecutive days of social defeat (SD) on vigilance sta...
متن کاملEffects of chronic social defeat stress on MAP kinase cascade.
Chronic psychological and social stress can cause psychiatric disorders in humans. In this study, we analyzed the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade in the hippocampus of chronically socially defeated rats. The rats that were subjected to social defeat every day for 5 weeks showed physiological and behavioral changes, including a reduced rate of weight gain, enlarged adrenal glands...

Chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) is a clinically relevant model of mood disorders. The relationship between the CSDS model and a physiologically pertinent paradigm of synaptic plasticity is not known. Here, we found that cluster analysis of the emotional behavior states of mice exposed to CSDS allowed their segregation into anxious and non-anxious groups. Endocannabinoid-mediated spike-timin...
